Tyrrell’s Equine Clinic Ltd is entering an exciting new chapter. The business is now owned by the Royal Veterinary College, bringing additional expertise and resources to support your horse, pony or donkey’s care.
Jason and Niki Tyrrell chose the RVC because, as the UK's largest and longest-established independent veterinary school, it shares the values on which the practice has been built. Rather than becoming part of a corporate veterinary group, the practice will continue its independent ethos while also helping to educate and train future generations of veterinary surgeons.
The RVC provides animal owners and the veterinary profession with access to expert veterinary care and advice through its teaching hospitals and first opinion practices in London and Hertfordshire. The Tyrrell’s team will work alongside the RVC Equine Ambulatory Practice based out of the RVC campus at North Mymms, which has a long and rich history in equine health management. The RVC also owns an equine referral hospital combining world-leading research with the largest number of RCVS Equine Specialists of any UK veterinary teaching hospital with 24-hour emergency and referral services, backed up by the most advanced techniques, patient care and best facilities available.
The RVC is ranked as the top veterinary school in the world in the QS World University Rankings by subject, 2026. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in veterinary medicine, veterinary nursing and biological sciences.
We expect our longstanding relationship with the RVC to develop further, providing even closer links to its specialist expertise. However, where particular specialist referrals are preferred, we will continue to refer horses to a range of providers.
Jason Tyrrell will continue to work in the practice alongside the wider Tyrrell’s team, providing the same veterinary services clients know and trust. Delivery of consultations, out of hours services, treatments, and ongoing care, and commitment to your animals’ wellbeing remains unchanged. Our current pricing strategy will not change with the new ownership but, as ever, will be subject to review.
The new ownership will bring additional resources and support, which means we can offer an even better experience for you and your horses. Day-to-day operations, our location, and our friendly team will remain the same.
Our Hertfordshire clinic offers extensive facilities to allow us to provide high quality in-patient care for routine or more advanced procedures. In addition to this we offer a comprehensive ambulatory service with a full range of mobile diagnostic equipment that can be brought to your yard. Our service is for both routine appointments and emergency situations when you need us day or night.
We pride ourselves on offering an outstanding personal service to our clients and their horses, and are always available to offer advice and our expertise as necessary. As a result we are proud to have many long standing and loyal clients.
