The vets at Tyrrells have a fond interest in reproductive medicine which has long been regarded as a particular strength of the practice. We cater both for thoroughbred stud clients with natural covering to an array of artificial techniques in non-thoroughbreds. The Equine Clinic is approved by the British Equine Veterinary Association as a registered Artificial Insemination centre.

To make life easier we have a range of reproductive packages available. Package fees include the cost of all veterinary examinations, semen handling, insemination, semen assessment and ultrasound scans performed during the mare’s oestrus cycle along with one preliminary examination to assess stage of cycle and induction into oestrus. A 15 day pregnancy scan, a uterine swab for bacterial infection and three days livery are also included in the package price.

Not included within the package fees are visit fees, drugs used to treat uterine infection / excessive fluid, manipulation and treatment of twin pregnancies and sedation (if required). A foetal heart beat scan at 28 days post insemination / covering is recommended and is payable separately, as are any further scans at 42 days and foetal sex determination at 60 – 70 days.
