In 2005 it became a legal requirement for all horse in the UK to have a valid passport. If your horse requires a passport then an appointment should be made for one of our vets to fill out a passport application form with details and marking of your horse. We are able to supply forms for a Horse Passport Agency passport or a Weatherbys passport in thoroughbreds however if you require a passport with a different agency you will need to supply this yourself. Once the application form is completed by our vet it is then your responsibility to post this to the appropriate passport agency along with their fee.
In July 2009 it became a legal requirement for all foals to be microchipped within six months of birth. Horses born before this date are not legally required to be microchipped however it remains advisable. A small chip the size of a grain of rice is implanted to the nuchal ligament on the left side of the horse’s neck. This chip contains a unique code which can be easily scanned and read by a microchip reader. This unique code along with details of you and your horse are then stored on a computerised database meaning your horse can be link to you in the future.
